  The best pies and pasties in Victoria by far (and I’ve tried them all - from the Dandenongs to the Yarra Valley, from Kyneton to Heathcote and beyond - I won’t name the “prize winning” pie shops). If you want a perfect sized pie with chunks of steak, cooked in red wine or Guinness or with kidney, or a chicken pie or a sausage roll or a pastie … and you’re not interested in novel alternatives like crocodile or kangaroo or butter chicken or Thai green curry … then Mowatt’s pies are head and shoulders better than anything else. I came to Australia from the UK over twenty years and loved the shared passion for a meat pie but quickly became disillusioned with the mainstay rubbish served up at the footie or servos. So I sought out the prize winning bakers and visited Olinda, Heathcote, Kyneton and anywhere else where I’d seen them spruiked on the news or travel programmes. Always underwhelmed in general with a few exceptions. Then I discovered Mowatt’s at a farmers’ market and now I detour via Romsey every week for my fix. Do yourself a favour and pop to Romsey or try one at any of the Macedon Ranges markets (but get there early because he always sells out).

  A well established business with amazing owners. Their produce of Scottish specialties cannot be compared. We bought ours for Burns Night celebrations. Our steak and Guinness pie had such tender beef chunks and a smooth flavourful Guinness gravy. I recommend for anyone in town to stock this for their own menus. Consistent presentation and crispy pastry. No one will be disappointed.

  We stopped in at Mowatts and were so excited to discover they offer gluten-free pies! My daughter and I are both gluten-free, and we honestly haven’t had a proper pie in years. I can genuinely say… it was the best pie I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely incredible. The staff are so friendly, super knowledgeable, and really take pride in what they do. Their food is second to none. We’ve shopped here multiple times and have never been disappointed… but now we have even more reason to keep coming back after trying the gluten-free pies. Even the regular pies were a huge hit with the rest of our family. Highly, highly recommend.

  Came here after seeing the Facebook posts. The staff are so incredibly friendly, an amazing range of meats and delicious hot food. Got myself a sausage in a roll with a tattie scone and ended up in tears because it tasted exactly like how my Nan used to make them. Thank you Mowatts for bringing back some wonderful memories!

  I found Mowatt’s at a Market a few years back and must say they make the best pies 🥧 I have ever eaten and the sausages I would say are just as good. At the shop in Sunbury they have a large range of Scottish/English produce but every time we come away from the shop with our favourites the pies and sausages. Definitely a must try for any pie lover. To top it off the owners a lovely people👍🏻👍🏻
