Mr Kiko is a charcoal chicken spot in Chelsea that I stumbled upon while heading back into Melbourne. I had seen a few snippets about it on social media highlighting local spots, so I decided to give it a shot. I came in with no expectations and left pretty satisfied, especially with certain items over others. What really stood out was their spicy grilled chicken burger. It is, if not the best, chicken burger I have had from a charcoal chicken shop. The chicken is well marinated, and the flavours soak in perfectly. Paired with the sauces, cheese, and salads, it all comes together really well. The burger was loaded with chicken — you definitely get more than what you pay for at $14.50. The beef burger was pretty standard. Nothing special, but cooked right. It did not make me think I would choose it over a proper grilled burger elsewhere. One of the burger buns was a bit crusty — I am not sure if it was slightly stale or just the style of bun, as the other one was not as bad. Another standout was the garlic potato bake. Very flavourful and tasted like it was freshly made daily. I really enjoyed that. The roasted vegetables were a bit underdone and slightly crunchy, not as soft and fluffy as I would have liked. The loaded chips were awesome with the gravy and cheese — almost like a high-quality poutine. I also appreciated how Mr Kiko operates. They drop the chips when they know the burgers are nearly ready, so you are not left with soggy, cold chips. It shows they care about timing and the overall experience. There is a bit of a wait since everything is cooked fresh, but if I were a local, I would definitely be back for the spicy chicken burger, loaded chips, and potato bake. The charcoal chicken itself was pretty standard. I would not travel from the city just for it, but if I am in the area and craving this style of meal, I would happily make a pit stop.

Surprised how long it has taken me to get to my local charcoal chicken & we absolutely loved this local gem. The charcoal chicken was juicy, smoky, and packed with flavour, and the crispy fried chicken was spot-on—golden, crunchy, and seriously addictive. The garlic scalloped potatoes were rich, creamy, and comforting, the kind you keep thinking about. Hot chips were nice and fresh, though they could’ve used a bit more chicken salt to really take them to the next level. The friendly male owner made the experience even better with his warm, welcoming vibe, and the casual seating makes it an easy place to relax and enjoy a great feed. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to

We got a too good to go from here and when I tell you AMAZING… and to think that that was left overs and not even just cooked for us yet still so delicious! The owner was so kind and waited for us to arrive… the chicken was juicy and tender and the chicken skewers have an amazing spice and herb to them! Will definitely be coming back here to eat on the regular. A hidden gem!

DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR & STOP IN FOR SOME FOOD TODAY!!!!! I have been meaning to stop in for quite a while now and I am sad that I didn't do it sooner. We turned up 15 minutes after they were meant to have closed without knowing, greeted with a really happy smile and nothing but warmth. Placed our order and when I finally realised it was after closing time, mentioned that we were going to take the burgers and chips home, got told to stay and enjoy the food as they were just going to be cleaning and getting ready to go home themselves. The burgers and chips are amazing, the prices are amazing, the owners are on a whole other level though. I will be driving down again and hopefully sooner rather than later

Had a wonderful experience at this homey food spot, very solid. Solid pricing with very generous portions. Ordered the 1/4 grilled chicken with 2 sides - garlic potatoes and tabouli. Chicken was incredibly juicy and well seasoned, best I’ve had in a while. Garlic potatoes were mild and tasty as well with melted cheese. The tabouli offered a nice acidic reprieve to the creamy potatoes and meaty chicken. Everything was so good I ended up trying the rice pudding as a last minute decision as well. Solid, has a nice coconut flavour and texture profile similar to a thick coconut sago with a dusting of cinnamon on top, staff were also nice people. Highly recommend.
