One place that really delighted in Bellingen was Thorn’s Gourmet Meats & Smokehouse. We visited solely for kabana ($47.99/kg) but the whole range looked well worth exploring. The smoky, dry, Polish sausages come in a variety of flavours. We opted for chilli, smoked chicken and cheese, and honey and black pepper. It’s really hard to pick a winner between them. Next time I’d buy multiple of each, like my learned friend James Rongen-Hall, who told me to “freeze them for ongoing gratification”.

The best butcher. I drive up to Bellingen from Scotts Head every two weeks to shop at Thorns as the quality of their meat is that good. Everything is so fresh and delicious, and there is a huge range to choose from. We particularly love their meatballs and sausages which are full of amazing herbs and spices, the flavours are incredible. The bacon is also the best we’ve ever tried. The team in store are always so friendly and helpful and it’s a wonderful experience each and every time.

Excellent wood smoked chilli sausage, it’s like salami but is fully cooked. We were on a tourist day trip to Bellingen and I had a Coopers XPA (on tap) at The Federal and my wife popped across the road to Thorns and a sausage caught her eye, so glad she bought it! The best smoked sausage we’ve ever eaten, great texture, smoky and a bit of a chilli bite that lingers, perfect with a beer.

For all you meat lovers… from the moment you walk in; the smell, wonderful. We can only say that the sausages and the pork ribs we bought were fantastic. Texan smoked chilli 🤤😉. Thanks and we will be back to buy some more on the way back down the coast. Well worth a visit for the lovely town of Bellingen.

Such an awesome Butcher, with good old fashioned friendly service and great vibes. Quality grass-fed meat at accessible prices!! The service we got was incredible each time. The burger patties are insanely delicious. The cabana styles are interesting and flavoursome, the young chap was a brilliant describer of tasting notes. Will be back, sad I can't get this in Victoria! Keep being awesome.
